Varicella zoster: Ramsay-hunt may affect hearing and / or facial nerve function on the affected side. Most of the time these do resolve and get better but for some they are permanent. There can also be difficulty with the eye secondary to the inability to completely close the eye. Give it time usually 3 to 6 months to resolve. Incidentally it is often treated with anti-virals and short doses of corticosteroids.

Ramsay Hunt recovery: In general, your chances of recovery are much better if the treatment is started within 3-5 days after the symptoms begin. Call your PCP if you lose movement in your face, or you have a rash on your face.
