Activated charcoal: Activated charcoal powder is not a carcinogenic substance. Researchers found that when meat is being barbequed, the fats drip down onto the red hot charcoal briquettes (not activated charcoal powder), which then get seared, resulting in the formation of carcinogenic substances (hca's & benzopyrene), which next rise upward and lastly are absorbed into the barbecued meat!
