You Can't: Cold sores are caused by viruses and like any virus, it must run it's course. If you have a warning sign (prodrome) that one is coming on you can take precription meds that usually are effective at preventing the outbreak. Talk to your dentist or md for the prescription.

No: They are caused by a virus and usually last 7-10 days. Certain anti viral meds can keep the virus at bay and decrease the outbreak by a few days.
