Yes: Methodone is safe for detox or maintanence during pregnancy while under the care of your ob. Methadone use in pregnancy has been associated with lower birth weights. But is far safer in contrast to narcotic abuse, especially cocaine, which is associated preterm labor and placental abruption.

Not really: Methadone was thought to be safe based on studies comparing heroin using mothers to Methadone using mothers. The Methadone group and babies did better. That doesnt mean Methadone is safe, just safer than heroin. The best choice is no opioids. But if opioids are necessary Methadone up to 20 mg per day might be ok with sufficint pre and postnatal care. Baby will need detox.

It is much safer: Than opiod withdrawel. Relapse is not safe. It is indicated to stay on the medication. The baby will detox and, on average be in the nicu for 17 days. If you have been a steady user then do not change. Subutex has less effects on nicu stay requiring about 10 days and 1/3 medicine. There seems 2 b no beh. Effects long run on mdon.Stick w/it + mental health, don't feel all guilty, tx depressio.
