Different causes: Flu is caused by a strain of influenza virus. It usually is sudden in onset and causes high fever and chills. Antibiotics won't make it go away any faster. A sinus infection is a bacterial infection usually occurring as a complication at the end of a head cold, so it comes on gradually. Fever is less common, and bacterial sinus infections often get better faster with antibiotics.
