Fungal Infection: Athlete's foot is a superficial fungal infection of the skin of the feet. It is mainly caused by a group of organisms called dermatophytes, and even more specifically by two organisms - tinea rubrum and tinea mentagrophytes. There are others as well, but these two are the main culptits the majority of the time.
