Similar To Bipolar I: Bipolar 2 disorder is a variant of bipolar disorder. Like bipolar disorder the patient must experience at least one depressive episode, but unlike bipolar disorder the patient suffers a hypomanic rather that a full blown manic episode. Hypomania is similar to mania but to a lesser degree. A person may be functional and there is never psychosis. Often a more difficult form to treat esp. Depression.
