Ibuprofen : Low back pain can be from various causes. It can be a simple muscle strain, which can be treated with massage, heat and short course of anti-inflammatory medicine, such as ibuprofen. But if the pain worsens, you may need to have x rays of the spine, or perhaps an MRI of the spind to look for a herniated disk or stenosis if the spinal cord, which usually require a medical or surgical intervention.

Muscle pain: Temporary relief with massage likely indicates a predominance of muscle pain. Muscles that are weak and not moving well typically become painful. Core strengthening should help. Yoga, tai chi or even Pilates can help.

Consider: Consider being seen by an osteopathic physician. Dos are trained in manipulative medicine as well as current surgical and prescription therapies. Omt/omm may help relieve your pain and help your provider to further diagnose your condition. As in other similar posts, a diagnosis should be made as there are many causes of back pain from a simple strain to spinal dz, kidney, bowel dz and even cancer.
