Undercooked meat: Tapeworm (cestode) infection usually occurs when a person eats undercooked meat. Rarely, they can be ingested by eating contaminated food or water. To diagnose a tapeworm a special test can be ordered to look at your stool. Many people who have tapeworms do not have symptoms. Not all tapeworms need to be treated.
