No better in 72 hrs: You descibe an injury to your proximal interphalngeal joint. A ball striking the tip of the straightened finger can bruise the joint and injure the ligaments and capsule causing in pain, stiffness, and swelling. If the pain and swelling are not significantly improved by 72 hrs seek orthopaedic help.

Finger injury: I recommend you have an x-ray immediately. If fractured, see a hand surgeon asap. If not, get the finger moving to lessen chance of stiffness.
