No: Lip retractors are used to keep the teeth dry so the adhesive will stick to your teeth. Our glue is like your glue...It doesn't work in a wet environment. Use chapsick if you have chapped lips.

Uncomfortable only: The cheek retractors are simply uncomfortable but not painful. They are used to help isolate, prepare, and keep your teeth dry so that orthodontic adhesives to hold your braces in place do not get wet or contaminated. It's a pretty simple and unobtrusive process. The retractors are basically the same as used when the orthodontist takes pictures of your teeth.
