Lack of digestion: When food is not broken down and absorbed in the small intestine, it passes then to the colon where the normal bacteria in your colon then consume it and often produce methane gas as a metabolic by-product. People with lactose intolerance don't produce an enzyme to break down lactose (milk sugar) and can often get gassy for this reason. You are likely eating something you don't digest.
