I was on demi-pointe in ballet, and all of a sudden, the bottom of my foot under my 4th and 5th toes swelled and hurt, with toes contracted. any ideas?

Foot pain: The first thought I have is that you sustained a fractured metatarsal, possibly a stress fracture. Often xrays will not reveal the fracture initially and serial xrays or a bone scan may be necessary. See you doctor or podiatrist for further tests. This is not an uncommon problem in athletes such as yourself.
