Noisy breathing : Noisy breathing on inspiration without any other cause. Diagnosis can be when patient has an episode and laryngoscopy shows inappropriate closure of the vocal cords. Treatment can range from speech therapy to reflux treatment to tracheostomy.

Shortness of breath: The main symptom of vcd is feeling short of breath or difficulty trying to get air in your lungs. Other symptoms are noisy breathing, hoarse voice, chronic throat clearing or coughing, and feeling of choking. Reflux could be one of the causes of vcd. Your symptoms are more likely related to an upper respiratory infection or condition. Visit your md and have him/her rule them out.
