Is there any way to know if you have arthritis besides going to the doctor in getting tested?

Yes and no: Any pain in the joints is called arthralgia. Any pain with swelling in the joints is called arthritis. The point of getting tested is to determine which type of arthritis you have, so that you can get the most helpful form of treatment.
