No.: Your retainers may not fit well. Gums turn white due to too much pressure on them which impedes bloodflow through them. Impeded blood flow results in lack of oxygen to these cells and will cause bone-loss and gum recession over time. Go back to the dentist for examination and correction of this problem.

Not normal. Your retainers may need adjustment, or you may be having a reaction to free monomer in the plastic. If they are older retainers that you have worn for awhile, teeth may have shifted. Return to the Dentist or Orthodontist that made them for you for a determination.
