How old ?: Dentures are made out of acrylic, which is hard, but is a tiny bit porous. Over time, stains can be absorbed into the plastic. If this is the case, you will have a very hard time getting them cleaned. Many dental offices, through their labs, offer a denture cleaning service for a nominal fee. Ask your dentist if s/he can help.

Clean or whiten?: The teeth on the dentures, the pink denture material itself and most often the areas between the teeth can pick up stain and calculus. This can be somewhat cleaned by your dentist, but will never look as good as new. The dentures can't be actually "whitened". If you dentures are old, consider having a new set made. Discuss these issues with a dentist who can actually see them.

See dentist: You should be seeing your dentist 2x/year. They should be cleaning your dentures at this time. See a prosthodontist - they are the experts in dentures. They are able to clean and polish them in the office. At home, scrub with toothbrush and toothpaste, then soak in effervescent cleaner (efferdent, etc. ) to kill the bacteria and help clean. Once badly stained they can be near impossible to whiten.
