History, blood work: Congratulations! the content of the first visit can vary a little but generally the OB doctor will review your wife's medical history, perform an exam, and order prenatal blood tests and an ultrasound scan. Blood work and ultrasound screening for chromosomal abnormalities like down's syndrome is optional, but should be offered to all pregnant women at any age.

Labs: At the first visit your wife will labs drawn and a physical exam performed. There may also be an sonogram. A lot of the appointment will be focused on education and counseling.
