Check heart pressure: Cardiac specialist would catheterize via jugular vein to get to the right side of the heart. It is most commonly done to put temporary pacemaker or to check blood pressure in the right side of the heart or overall heart function (right heart catheterization). Right heart catheterization is performed usually to evaluate for pulmonary hypertension or valvular heart disease.

Cardiac Cath: Cardiac catheterization is a broad term that encompasses right heart catheterization to assess right heart pressures, oxygen levels, and heart function. The specialist may use a large vein in the arm, neck, or leg as an appropriate access to place the catheter. The site selected depends on several factors including physician preference and experience, body habitus, type of catheter, etc.
