Go to the hospital: Herniated discs in your neck can cause some facial numbness, but so can a stroke or lyme disease, or multiple sclerosis or many other potentially serious conditions. Please see your doctor, or go to the hospital to be fully evaluated, you need to have this evaluated fully!

Unlikely: The sensation to your face does not come from nerves in your neck or shoulder. True sensation to the face comes from branches of a nerve that originates in your head called the trigeminal nerve. If you have numbness over one side of your face there are a number of specific questions your doctor needs to explore and a thorough neurological exam is necessary.

Possibly: Pain in the neck and shoulder is often associated with pain in the upper neck and jaw. This pain and spasm can compress nerves that supply sensation to the face leading to numbness. As the spasm and pain improves the numbness should also get better. If it doesn't improve quickly you need to see your doctor.
