does propranolol or toprol (metoprolol) xr shorten life in patients with tachycardia? i'm 18 and on toprol (metoprolol). doc wants me on propranolol now

NO: Neither shorten life if taken as directed. Toprol (metoprolol) and propanolol are quite similar medications. You should have no problem switching from one to the other.
