A member asked:

Is it safe and beneficial to give a heart attack victim nitrostat (nitroglycerin) before doing cpr?

No: If someone is in need of cpr, the only thing that should delay the initiation of chest compressions is calling 911. Chest compressions at the proper speed and depth are the most important thing to do to save someone's life. If an automated external defibrillator (AED) is present, it is important to place that on the patient as soon as possible as this is a life saving maneuver as well.

Heart attack: If someone needs CPR nitro is not given. CPR is usually given to someone who is experiencing cardiac or cardio-pulmonary arrest.
