Emergency: Placing a sublingual meds would serve the same purpose as giving meds through IV -- as you probably know, Nitroglycerin can relieve cardiac chest pain (angina pectoris) quickly and potentially halt the progression to a heart attack -.

Pain relief : Nitroglycerin relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow to the heart. During a heart attack blood flow is decreased and this causes damage to the heart which can be fatal. Increased blood flow decreases the pain and injury and can improve survival.
