Unlikely, but...: The antibody test is unlikely to give a false positive. However, some people clear the infection on their own. They have positive antibody tests but don't have chronic hepatitis. That's why it's important to confirm positive tests with an hcv RNA test, which will be positive if you're still infected.

Rarely: Some women may test false positive with the hepatitis c antibody test but false positive with hepatitis c viral load is not possible.
