A 35-year-old member asked:

i'm thinking about stretching my ears, but i don't know what size to start out with. would it be bad if i started out with an 8 gauge?

Not healthy: I will start by asking you to consider gauging in the context of the health problems that can result from gauging. A 16-gauge or 18-gauge needle is often used for an initial piercing for ear gauging.

When is it ok to pierce my baby's ears?

Yes: Although it is considered safe to have a baby's ears pierced i generally do not pierce infant ears. I usually wait until the child is old enough to ask for them. If your baby does have earrings i recommend taking them out at night (after the holes have healed) to reduce the risk of accidental swallowing/choking.
A member asked:

How do I clean my baby's ears?

Warm washcloth: Hello, babies are really a lot cleaner than we (adults) are. The only real dirty place on a baby is the diaper area. There is no real reason to clean the inside of your baby's ears. A warm washcloth to the outside will work just fine. Soft and gentle is the way to go. Try not to put water in the canal, as that can be irritating to the little ones.

Why does my baby keep pulling on her ears?

Because she can!: Babies pull, tug, and play with their ears usually because they can. They have discovered these interesting appendages attached to the side of their heads and they can't resist. Sometimes, infants who are teething will pull and tug at their ears. Ear pulling in the absence of other symptoms is rarely associated with ear infections.

Can I train my bladder to stretch and hold more fluid by holding in my urine when I feel the urge to go?

Yes: Yes, holding your urine a little longer each time can help retrain the bladder for certain types of urinary urgency. At times training your bladder to a specific voiding schedule is helpful also.

If my growth has been stunted, can stretching the legs make me able to grow?

No : Once growth plates have fused, usually around 17 or so in boys, growth is done. Stretching the legs to add more height can be accomplished with breaking the long bones in the legs and then resetting them. I've only seen this done in patients with achondroplastric dwarfism. Just stretching the leg muscles will not add height.
