Depends on the cause: Any pain that runs down the buttock &/or back of the thigh is often labeled 'sciatic' pain. Truth is, there are many potential causes. The sciatic nerve or one of it's branches can be 'pinched' by a herniated disc, stuck vertebra, or piriformis muscle spasm. Many other causes such as referred pain from si ligament injury, too.A good history & physical, incl osteopathic hands-on exam may find/fix it.
