Difficult to answer: Generally speaking, we feel that concussion symptoms resolve more quickly in patients that rest. Rest from sports, high exertion, significant amount of reading, calculating, television, computer work, stressful activities, etc. Thus, there is an assumption that if symptoms resolve more quickly, then the brain is recovering more quickly and fully. However, these assumptions are difficult to prove.

Yes: Rest, both physical and cognitive, will help speed resolution of a concussion. Not having the rest may prolong the symptoms, but eventually most will recover spontaneously. Avoid strenuous activities, get sufficient sleep and eat a balanced diet during recovery.
