If you mean: How do we protect ourselves from the patient's cancer, then the answer is you can not get cancer from another human being. Having said that in the or we follow universal precautions against blood , fluids etc. ( surgical gowns, gloves, face masks, eye protection). These all protect from coming in contact with pathogens that a patient may carry.

Varies, but...: Usually, during surgical procedures, latex gloves are worn as well as surgical gowns and masks. This protects from bodily fluid exposure.
