Black eye: A black eye should be evident if you check yourself in the mirror. The concern abotu getting smacked in the head real hard is a concussion - altered or loss of consciousness, visual complaints, headaches, ringing in the ears, nausea and vomiting are just some of the symptoms. If symptoms are severe, there are multiple symptoms, they persist or get worse people should get this cleared medically.

Yes: You can get a black eye when "smacked" in the head. Blood vessels are broke where the "smack" occured and then the blood migrates the the soft tissues around the eye giving you a black eye!
