Pink eye: It can be caused by either a virus or a bacteria. It is transmitted through the hands of an infected individual touching an unaffected person and then that person touches their eye(s).

Pink eye: Classically is a viral infection of the outer coating of the eyeball, the conjunctiva. It is extremely contagious and is caught by exposure to infectios secretions, much like catching a cold.
