No: No, a cold sore is caused by a virus. You probably had the virus and were picking at the spot because as the virus starts to erupt, it causes swelling and tingling at the site. It takes a few days for the scab to form. Eventually it will heal and will be back to normal. There are meds that will shorten the duration of a cold sore. But they work only if taken early. See your doctor asap.
