Urodynamics: Your dad needs to have pressure testing in the bladder to see if it still works.

May be these...: Clearly, your dad had severe bladder weakness from long-term hard work to overcome increasingly poor relaxation ; opening at prostate region by aging and enlarged prostate over lifetime. So, to protect his bladder from further damage by its over-distention is essential task at present. How? Two options are indwelling catheter with good care or intermittent self-catheterization. No drug can help.

Depends: Post procedure urinary retention is someone common with a very large prostate treated with minimally invasive procedures. This is in part due to the small amount of tissue actually removed during these procedures and also due to swelling created by the procedure. He may need to learn intermittent self catheterization until he's able to void on his own.
