Monitoring: It is important for you to be monitored for residual/recurrent disease. Since you had a total thyroidectomy, your endocrinologist can do blood tests (serum thyroglobulin), ultrasound or tsh-stimulated uptake studies to assess disease status.

Unlikely: It is unlikely that you have caused any damage. Papillary thyroid cancer is usually quite slow-growing. Where was your site of metastasis?
