A member asked:

I'm a 31 year old female and was advised to take calcium supplements. is it alright to take 1200mg elemental calcium/day? most have 600mg/pill.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on diet.: Given your age, you are recommended to take in 1000 mg/day. Do you get any calcium via your diet? If you do, i would probably stick with one 600 mg pill/day. If you hardly take in calcium, 2 pills/day. You don't want to exceed 2500 mg/day total from all sources. See: http://ods.Od.Nih.Gov/factsheets/calcium-healthprofessional/.
