Pain: Nail that curves into the cuticle is considered ingrown. Cut toenails straight across so that the corners are visible and overhanging the skin to prevent ingrown nails.

Pain: Possible signs of having an ingrown nail may include: pain increased redness, swelling, tightness or drainage at the nail margins. If pain does not improve, or you develop signs of infection, get it evaluated by a professional.
