A member asked:

Do you really have fibromyalgia when rheumatologists diagnose you with it? is the diagnosis always accurate?

Fibromyalgia: Since fibromyalgia is of unknown cause and has no definitive test available, other diagnoses must always be considered. It is important to reasonably exclude other causes of symptoms. Hopefully as research progresses there will be a more definitive answer but for now a careful history, thorough exam and appropriate labs and xrays based upon those findings is the best we have.

Fibromyalgia: Diagnosis is usually by excluding other causes, and further treatment confirms it.
