Awake during cath: Yes, in general light sedation and pain relief is provided. The procedure should not be painful and you should not be anxious during the procedure. A combination of sedative and pain reliever are given for this. General anesthesia is not given as the risk of anesthesia are greater than the cath itself. Being awake also allows your doctor to talk to you and you to communicate as well.
