Pressure measurement: Right heart catheterization is usually carried out to measure oxygen levels, intracardiac pressures, and cardiac output, as well as cardiac tissue biopsies. The right side of the heart is reached through the venous system (from the leg (femoral) or the neck (jugular) vein). A catheter (plastic tube) is used to carry out the above tasks and a bioptome is used to do the biopsy.
