Depends on the germ: Both bacteria and viruses can survive on your hands for quite a while. Some bacteria like staph and strep live on your skin all the time. Most viruses don't survive too long, (hrs to days) on your skin. This is why it is important to clean your hands frequently, especially if you have the flu or a cold.
