Yes: The active ingredient in Xalatan is latanoprost and there are several companies making generics. The problem with the generic is that while the active ingredient is the same, the vehicle or liquid it comes in varies and can alter the effect and side effects. I have had many patients with a good response to Xalatan develop side effects and a poor response to a generic.
