Yes: Once a patient has a dvt, there is an increased risk of a second dvt. More important to know: are there coagulation abnormalities? Are birth control pills or hormones used?

Of course: Your orthopedist needs to be aware. If purely elective one may suggest waiting about 6 months and rechecking ultrasound. If it must move along, prophylactic heparin/ or Lovenox (enoxaparin) /or Aspirin and athrombic pumps and early mobilization may be used to reduce. Your pcp may have done a coagulopathies review as well and should share with orthopedist.

Dvt: Yes with a history of a deep vein thrombosis, there are risks for recurrence, especially if the arthroscopy is being performed on the same lower extremity. I would discuss this issue with your primary physician who should coordinate care with the orthopedic surgeon performing the arthroscopy.
