I have had pain in my left hip for about 4 months now on and off , plus pain on standing i get a sudden sharp pain across my lower abdomen .

You need an exam: I saw that you've been "waiting awhile" for an answer. The reason you've been waiting is that no one can diagnose these symptoms without doing an abdominal, pelvic and hip exam. Sorry, a quick answer would have been great, but an exam is important. It's not clear if the pains are related, but if so, is there an abdominal problem causing referred pain? An exam would help make that more clear.
