Yes this is common: Some intial tenderness and pulling from a thyroidectomy scar is normal. Sometimes there can be some tethering of the scar down to the windpipe that may pull when you swallow. Occasionally scar revision surgery can be helpful but you should wait at least 6 months- and perhaps up to 1 year- for the scar to mature. Sometimes an injection of cortisone can help the healing- ask your surgeon.

Thyroidectomy : Your concerns should be discussed with your surgeon. Only he/she knows what was done at your procedure and everything else is pure speculation. In general, pulling sensations after any surgery, can occur. But you need to talk to your surgeon to determine if this is 'normal'.
