Common: After abdominal surgery it is common for reflex back muscular discomforts, often from muscle tightness or spasms. Try to be up out of bed or out of a chair with more walking each day. Local heat may also help some.

Compensating: Your lower back musculature is compensating for your abdominal muscles, which you are less likely to use due to pain. This will resolve in 4-6 weeks.
