Hypochondria?: There are a few possibilities, starting with hypochondria, unfounded worries of being sick or having a disease. Some people complain for care or attention. More severe would be an unshakeable conviction of something that is plainly untrue (ie, a delusion). If your friend is open to psych evaluation, that might clear things up.
