Contributing factor?: Breastfeeding lowers a woman's cholesterol and triglycerides (tg), and there has been an association of breastfeeding lowering a woman's chance of developing coronary artery disease later in life (all good things). Your level of 40, however, is too low. Causes of too low tg include malnutrition, hyperthyroid, or genetic conditions affecting fat absorption. Were your tg levels ok pre-pregnancy?

Interesting question: Since i'm not knowledgeable, i researched this. In rats, lactation has no net effect on maternal tg but in humans, there is a reference indicating that it does lower it. Tg of 40 is very healthy for you. Since neonates need long chain fatty acids for brain development, the question really is: how much fat is in your milk? That could be (and should be) measured. See your OB or pediatrician.
