A member asked:

I have a colcoscopy scheduled today. if i take a vicodin, will this effect any bleeding that may happen or make bleeding worse? (21yearold)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Vicodin (which contains tylenol/acetominophen) does not affect bleeding and clotting, and is generally safe before a medical procedure. However, your dob may not want you taking anything by mouth. Aspirin and other NSAID medications do prolong bleeding times because they affect your platelet cells, and most surgeons prefer that you not take these medications for a time before a planned operation.
