Quit date: Usually, go see your doctor. Starting by setting a "stop date" is the first step. He may start you on medications like Chantix or wellbutrin (bupropion). He may give you the nicoderm patches or inhalers. With a habit of only 7-10 cig/day, you may not need anything but encouragement.

Smoking: The first step to quitting smoking is absolutely wanting to stop smoking. After that, just stop buying cigarettes. They are too expensive and have no positive redeeming value at all.
