Yes: The adhesive used to maintain fake nails for over 6 months duration can damage the nail plate and make it susceptible to pick up a fungus or other infection. Fungus is everywhere and if it finds a weak area, it will begin to infiltrate. Have the nails examined to determine if the nails are damaged or infected. If infected, treatment can include oral or topical medication or laser treatment.

Fake nails: Use of artificial nails is a big problem and it is a common cause of nail fungus. This is because the nail is unable to "breathe" and often trapped humidity it is the primary cause of nail fungus. Seek treatment with a physician who can begin you on a regimen of antifungal treatment and make sure nails are kept dry and trimmed short.
