How old is he?: Reflux of formula with vomiting, especially if he has an air bubble from crying & swallowing air just before a feed, can start in the first few weeks of life. Pyloric stenosis, a little "knot" at the stomach outlet can develop early. It's characterized by projectile vomiting that literally shoots out a few feet. It's worth having his pediatrician check him out & watch him feed.
